Cruise to Alaska 2023…
We left the house for our afternoon flight to Seattle. It was a bit of a rush getting out. Our airport here is small and easy to get around. Getting through TSA was pretty quick, but damn is it rushed. Having to take off my belt and shoes and all my electronics and then putting everything back on and back into my bag quickly is crazy. We got onto our first flight. This was Karissa’s first time flying. She did well, but she was so nervous. Our flight wasn’t too long before we landed at LAX to connect to our next flight. We had lunch at LAX…and damn that was expensive! The flight to Seattle was a bit longer. The SEA airport is much bigger than ours back home. We took the train to our stop and walked to our hotel. And downtown Seattle is not flat. It reminded me of San Francisco. Our walk was mostly uphill. But we made it to our hotel and I collapsed on the bed.
The next day was embarkation day. We were rushed in the morning and getting to the ship. Getting through the lines for embarkation was fast. We got to our room, which by the way, is small for four people. But it worked! There was a bunk bed that came down from the ceiling and the couch folded out into a bed. The couch was my bed. We also had a balcony, which proved useful for when we saw the glaciers. We headed to the buffet and had something small to eat. I was so nervous about being on the ship that I was shaking. The ship is crowded. There were more people than I thought there would be. But everyone was so nice on the ship. Dinner was awesome. Four course meal, of course, I didn’t order each course. You could eat as much as you wanted if you wanted to. Sunday was a day at sea as we traveled to Juneau, Alaska. The water was a bit rough and we all, except Karissa, got a bit sea sick. I wasn’t too bad but I did feel a little nauseous. It was formal night and I reluctantly wore a dress. I have to say I’m not a fan of dresses. Poor Tommy wasn’t feeling well and went back to the room early.
When in Juneau, we went and saw the Mendenhall Glacier and waterfall. It was a nice hike and I got about 13k steps in. We took a lot of nice pictures. I was even in a few of them. I hate my picture taken. Lol. We mailed a postcard back home from the Welcome Center. We made it back to the ship in time and went down to have dinner.
Tomorrow I will continue the story of my trip. Must do some laundry now.
