I’m a bit tired. We got home just after 1am this morning from Phoenix. Tomorrow we will be up very early. Tommy has to be at the hospital at 5:30am for his surgery. He will be there overnight so we need to pack an overnight bag tonight.
Last Friday Kel, Chris and I picked Tommy up from work at 3:30 and we stopped at Tommy’s doctor appointment at 4. The appointment went a little longer than we thought it would be but he is all set for his surgery. After his appointment we took off for Phoenix. Stopped for the night by the Grand Canyon. I’ve never cared for drives on those dark roads that is surrounded by forests on each side. I’ve read too many ghost stories and watched too many true crime stories to know that is where strange, dark and mysterious things happen! I’m just not down with that.
Tommy and I got up early, before sunrise to go over to the Grand Canyon and take pictures. The scenery is breathtaking. After about an hour we went back to the hotel and had breakfast. Then we woke up Kel and Chris. We got ready and checked out and went back to the Grand Canyon. We took more pics and walked around a bit. We stopped at the Visitor Center and got some souvenirs and post cards. I mailed one of the post cards home. Then we went on our way to Phoenix. The drive is basically all downhill. When we stepped out of the truck in Phoenix, it felt like being in an oven. The heat actually wasn’t too bad but it was hot! We have heat like that in the Antelope Valley, so it wasn’t like we have never been in this type of heat. We were going to see a baseball game but the game was already starting when we got to the hotel, so sadly we didn’t go. The hotel was so cool. They gave free popcorn and soda. And at 5 the hotel gave complimentary dinner.. I got some nachos because we weren’t having dinner yet. Later, we went to this Mexican restaurant for dinner. It was good. They had good Chile Relleno.
The next day we saw the Oppenheimer movie about, well, Oppenheimer and the atomic bomb. The movie was three hours long. But it was a good movie. Seeing it in the IMAX theater made the experience great. I think popcorn would have made it the best. The movie was intense and I think they could have shortened some of the scenes but in all they told the story well with some good accuracies. But given that this movie is about the making of the atomic bomb and the known outcome it had, it’s hard to feel good about the movie. You have a sinking feeling and sense of dread about what happened.
After the movie we went to IN-N-OUT burgers and had a quick lunch before going home. We took the scenic route home. It was beautiful. I saw a lot of cacti. I’ve always like the cactus in Arizona. Overall it was a nice trip.
I have no idea what dinner is tonight. Of course, I can’t drive my car to the store to get anything. Or the mail. I’d like to get the mail. I will get that tomorrow.
