Today felt quite long and hectic. Tommy rented a car, which was a relief due to the nonstop rain. We began our day with a leisurely breakfast in the main dining room, where I enjoyed an omelet and some fruit. Pardon my writing, but I’m a little tipsy at the moment after three consecutive alcoholic drinks. After breakfast, we returned to our room to grab our rain gear and backpacks.
Today in Juneau, it was cooler than yesterday in Ketchikan, and the rain certainly didn’t help warm things up. Tommy rented a car, and we picked up Kel, who awaited us. It was a relief to sit in the car and escape the rain. We then drove up to Mendenhall Glacier. We began our visit at the visitor center before embarking on the Nugget Falls trail, where we enjoyed a 20-minute hike to the glacier and the waterfall. Despite the rain making photography challenging, Tommy did an excellent job capturing the experience. After the return hike to the trailhead, we concluded our visit and returned to the car. My jeans were soaked, making me think investing in better rain gear might be a good idea!
After enjoying a delightful meal at a Filipino restaurant, I was pleasantly surprised by Tommy’s thoughtful gesture, considering my Filipino heritage. The food was delicious, and we then proceeded to head back to the car before visiting the Alaska State Libraries Archives and Museums. This place’s wealth of information was overwhelming, but I found it immensely enjoyable to immerse myself in learning about a different culture. I particularly relished the experience of studying their clothing and ways of life.
After visiting the museum, we returned to our car and refueled it before returning to the drop-off point. While walking back to the ship, Tommy and I returned to the vehicle to ensure we had completed all necessary procedures for dropping it off. Once that was settled, we made our way back to the ship. Upon reaching our room, I took a much-needed nap, feeling incredibly tired. After resting, we headed to the dining room for dinner. I savored some delicious chile rellenos and a sugar-free coffee mousse for dessert. Later, we visited the Wheelhouse bar, where we listened to music and enjoyed some drinks. The drinks made me tipsy. Although we had initially planned to attend a show, we were all too tired, so we decided to call it a night and retire to our room.
Tomorrow is Skagway.
