Today, we find ourselves at sea, waiting for our glimpse of the College Fjord Glaciers. Our day began around 7 a.m. Kel was already up and ready. She went down to have breakfast early to get started on our next load of laundry. As Tommy and I readied ourselves to assist, we discovered a lengthy wait for the laundry due to a few out-of-order laundry rooms. Therefore, we’ve decided to postpone our laundry duties until tomorrow morning.
Tommy and I enjoyed a delightful breakfast in the main dining room. I had a delicious spread of fruit, pancakes, bacon, and hash browns. Following breakfast, we joined Kel at the theater for a culinary show. The main chef put on a fantastic demonstration of several dishes, and it felt like we were at a comedy show – it was pretty entertaining. There was an optional galley tour afterward, but since we had already seen it last year, we opted not to. Tommy seemed quite tired, likely due to the Dramamine he took, so he returned to our room to nap. Meanwhile, Kel and I relaxed at the bar, enjoyed Diet Coke, and spent time on our phones.
After some time, Kel and I returned to our room to wake Tommy, only to find that he was already up. We decided to head out for lunch and initially planned to dine at Alfredo’s Pizza, but the wait was too long, so we settled for the Grill instead. I ordered some delicious street tacos. We enjoyed our meal, engaging in lively conversation. I sipped on another Diet Coke and also had a beer. Afterward, we decided to head back inside the ship and find a spot to play a board game. We played two rounds of King of Tokyo, with Tommy emerging as the victor in both. I came very close to winning the first round, but Tommy clinched it.
As Tommy is engrossed in his Fantasy Football draft, Kel and I lounged on the pool deck for a while before heading to our room to charge our phones. I took that opportunity to jot down in my journal. We will now head up on deck and see the College Fjord Glaciers. College Fjord, situated in the northern part of Prince William Sound in Alaska, is a stunning fjord sculpted by glaciers. This majestic inlet is home to five tidewater glaciers, five expansive valley glaciers, and numerous smaller glaciers. Interestingly, these glaciers are named after prominent East Coast colleges, with women’s colleges represented on the northwest side and men’s colleges on the southeast side.
Speaking of Prince William Sound, the Exxon Valdez ran aground and caused an oil spill in 1989. My dad was on the USS Juneau and was involved with the cleanup. I was 13 at the time.
We’ve finished dinner. I enjoyed the lamb shank and apple pie for dessert. Unfortunately, it seems Tommy was allergic to the laundry detergent we used. Tomorrow, we plan to purchase new detergent and rewash the clothes. We’ll also pick up more Benedryl while we’re in town. Tommy is currently resting, and Kel is preparing for bed. I’m unwinding by watching videos and writing.
Tomorrow, we will be in Anchorage (Whittier).
