Today was enjoyable, but I’m not feeling my best. I plan to take medication tonight, so I’m refraining from doing so now. I’m experiencing discomfort in my head, throat, and body. I hope the medication later will provide relief.
I woke up at 5 a.m. today, unable to sleep any longer. I decided to shower, get ready for the day, and take some medication. Tommy and Kel woke up at 6; after they got ready, we headed to the main dining room for breakfast, where I had blueberry pancakes. I love blueberry pancakes. It has to be one of my favorite breakfasts.
We are in Skagway today. Skagway, Alaska, is a small town with an extensive history, primarily tied to the Klondike Gold Rush of 1897-1898. Before the rush, Skagway was mainly inhabited by the Tlingit people, who used the area as a trading hub. However, the town as it is known today was officially founded in 1897 when thousands of prospectors flooded in, hoping to strike it rich by heading to the Klondike region of Canada’s Yukon.
As we disembarked from the ship, we were briefly held up by the crew, who mistook Tommy’s camera case for carry-on luggage and assumed we were leaving the boat for good. After reassuring them that we would return, Kel stayed to watch the bags while Tommy and I ventured into town to retrieve the car he had rented. The vehicle was quite impressive, as it was an electric car with no door handles – you had to press a button to open the doors. Additionally, it boasted the most giant touch screen I had ever seen in a car, resembling a jumbo iPad. After picking up Kel, we started our journey to the Yukon, Canada.
The weather was delightful today, which lifted our spirits as Tommy and I weren’t feeling our best and were hoping to avoid the rain. During our journey to Carcross, we paused to capture some photos. Upon reaching Carcross, we enjoyed a pleasant lunch at a charming restaurant. I savored some delicious cod fish and chips. Following that, we visited a gift shop. Tommy bought me a new shirt that I’m excited to wear tomorrow.
After visiting Carcross, we headed to Caribou Crossing, just a 7-minute drive away. It’s interesting to note that Carcross was formerly known as Caribou Crossing. During our time at Caribou Crossing, we enjoyed the petting zoo, where we fed goats, horses, and alpacas and saw some adorable Husky puppies. On our way back to Skagway, we made a few stops for photos, and Tommy even took a quick nap. Once back in Skagway, we returned the rental car and returned to the ship. However, poor Tommy was stopped again upon boarding, this time for a check inside his camera case to ensure it wasn’t a drone. Tough day for Tommy!
Upon arriving at our room, Tommy and I opted to nap as we felt under the weather. Following our rest, we ordered dinner through room service as we didn’t have the energy to go to the main dining room. I requested a club sandwich, chicken soup, and a Diet Coke. Once I finish my meal, I intend to take some Nyquil and retire for the night.
We will be in Juneau tomorrow. We will see how we feel tomorrow if we are getting off the ship or not. Also, Kel and I have an appointment tomorrow to get a pedicure at the spa on the ship.
