Our final day of the cruise. Besides getting sick, it has been genuinely remarkable. Cruising to Alaska has been an exceptional adventure, offering a perfect blend of awe-inspiring natural beauty and the luxury of life onboard. Picture gliding through serene icy waters surrounded by magnificent glaciers, towering mountains, and abundant wildlife. One of the most remarkable aspects of an Alaskan cruise is the opportunity to explore remote, untouched areas. Ports like Juneau, Ketchikan, and Skagway provide a glimpse into Alaska’s rich history and rugged allure. However, the true highlight is the stunning landscape. I was even fortunate enough to witness a glacier calving with a spectacular, thunderous crash. This voyage has been incredibly educational, allowing us to learn much about Alaska, its landscapes, and its wildlife. I dare say, even more so than my previous cruise here last year.
We woke up at around seven and prepared for the day. After having breakfast in the main dining room, I enjoyed some delicious eggs benedict. When we returned to our room, it was being cleaned, so we took a coffee break in the Explorer’s lounge. Eventually, Tommy returned to the room for a nap while Kel and I enjoyed another drink. As Kel started to feel sleepy, we returned to our room. Both of them are now sleeping. I’m considering taking some cough syrup later, as I haven’t taken any cold medicine today. Then, we plan to participate in the fun tradition of hiding toy ducks around the ship for others to find. We must start packing soon, but it’s not too daunting. I’m starting to feel like it’s time to head home. I miss the kids, the pets, and our house.
It’s a bit later now, and I’m attempting to write while feeling tipsy. My head feels heavy. When Tommy woke up, we tried to get an envelope from customer service, but the line was too long, so we returned to our room. We decided to give the steward her tip without an envelope. She was fantastic during our time on the ship, always keeping our room clean and helping us when needed. Tommy and I started packing while Kel went downstairs for fresh air. We packed and filled out the tags for our bags. We’re planning to have the ship take four bags tonight and have them ready by 9 o’clock.
After packing, we headed downstairs to meet Kel, who returned to the room to gather her belongings. While Kel was packing, Tommy and I relaxed in the ship’s library and enjoyed a Diet Coke while we waited for the main dining room to open. As we dined, I took the opportunity to express my gratitude to the waiter in Tagalog. This prompted him to inquire if I spoke Tagalog, as he was surprised to learn that I am Filipina. It’s funny how all the Filipinos on the ship assume I’m American while the Americans think I’m Filipina. I savored the sweet and sour shrimp for dinner and indulged in a delicious cheesecake for dessert.
Tommy and I headed to the room to help Kel find her black bag containing my driver’s license. After locating the bag, Tommy and I went to the Wheel House bar while Kel went for dinner. After finishing her meal, she joined us at the bar, and we all enjoyed a few drinks before calling it a night. Tommy is already fast asleep, Kel is getting ready for bed, and I’m about to finish writing before heading to bed.
Tomorrow, we will be in Vancouver, where we will disembark the ship in the morning. We will spend a few days there before we head home on Friday.
