I spoke with Kel last night, and she mentioned that her dad is living like a bachelor, with little to no food in the house. It reminded me of my own experience when I first moved to Germany. I arrived in the afternoon, and both Kevin and I went out for lunch and dinner. We lived in an apartment on base, and the military had furnished it, which made things convenient. Kevin had been in the apartment for a few weeks before I arrived, but when I got there, I noticed it was quite bare, with only a few pieces of furniture. The bed had only a blanket on it, and Kevin was sleeping on a bare mattress! I told him we needed to go out and buy some things, like sheets for the bed.
The following morning, he headed off to work, leaving me on my own. I needed to stop by Burger King on the base to speak with the manager about potential employment. Upon entering the kitchen, I realized that there was absolutely no food in the house! Feeling a bit lost in this foreign country and quite hungry, I got dressed and went to Burger King for breakfast. It is noted that Burger King isn’t my favorite fast food restaurant. After discussing job opportunities with the manager, I did a bit of shopping. I later met up with Kevin for lunch at Burger King, which seemed to be the only fast-food option available on base. I told him that we needed to go grocery shopping for essentials; we didn’t even have plates, glasses, or cleaning supplies. It surprised me that Kevin hadn’t thought about purchasing these items before I arrived, but perhaps he was just waiting for me to take the lead.
Initially, it was quite scary, but we gradually adapted. I frequently ventured off base to visit the local market for lunch. My favorite spot was the library on base, where they had a computer with internet access. Since the library was rarely visited, the librarian allowed me to use the computer for as long as I wished. However, it’s worth noting that there wasn’t much available online back then. Living in a small town meant there were no internet cafes like those in Frankfurt.
Now, concerning today, I made some progress on the HTML for my responsive website project. I added social icons to the page and worked on the images. The layout still appears a bit chaotic because I’ve just begun working on the CSS, so it looks somewhat out of place at this stage.
Today, Alex and Karissa prepared lunch for me—Spam served with rice and eggs. It wasn’t too bad, and it felt nice to have lunch made for me. Kel is currently in the city with Mimi, who is getting groomed. Mimi will also receive a new sweater since it’s still quite chilly, and with her fur trimmed, she would definitely need some extra warmth. Meanwhile, Merlin accompanied Tommy to work today, and I believe Tommy will be finishing his shift early.
I think I’ll share this a bit earlier today, simply because it’s Friday. 🙂
