Yesterday turned out to be quite a lengthy day for us. Kel and I left the house shortly after 10 a.m. and arrived a little early for my first appointment, a mammogram. This was fortunate, as I needed to complete some paperwork before the procedure. The mammogram itself wasn’t too uncomfortable, though I always feel a bit self-conscious during the process.
After the mammogram, we headed to Costco for lunch. Their meals are consistently affordable and tasty. Following lunch, we spent some time at PetSmart while Kel picked up a few items for Merlin. Afterward, we made our way to the Ikea customer pickup area to collect the drawers for my desk.
I had another appointment, with my ENT, scheduled in an hour, so we began our journey there. My ENT clinic is a bit far out and is close to another city, or so Kel claims. We took a longer route that did indeed lead us through another city before circling back to the hospital. The ENT appointment went well overall, although I experienced some discomfort in my right ear towards the end. The doctor applied a powder in my right ear to help absorb the drainage.
The ENT doctor prescribed me some medication that needed to be filled at a different pharmacy than my usual one. Kel and I made our way back to the city to get the prescription, which took us about 45 minutes from the hospital. My medications will be ready on Thursday.
After visiting the pharmacy, we headed home, feeling quite exhausted from the day’s activities. The drive back took us roughly 50 minutes. Initially, we planned to stop by Walgreens to pick up Tommy’s medication for his ear infection, but both of us needed to use the bathroom, so we decided to go home first. After a short break, we went to Walgreens to get Tommy’s antibiotics. We were so tired that we forgot to check the mail.
Karissa made dinner last night, which was a nice relief because I didn’t have to cook when we got home. We enjoyed some orange chicken and rice. Tommy arrived home shortly after us, not feeling too well due to his ear.
Today, I’m tackling more JavaScript problems. I’m enjoying it, and I feel like some of the concepts are finally starting to stick. I’m also doing laundry right now, which is in the dryer. For lunch, I had some ramen along with cherry tomatoes. I like snacking on cherry tomatoes.
I’ve been working on a JavaScript problem for about an hour now. I need to create a function that determines whether a number is prime. It seems like a straightforward task, but I’m experiencing some difficulties with it. I’ve decided to take a break and then revisit the challenge. So far, I have:
function isPrime(n) { if (n < 2) return false; }
I’m considering implementing a ‘for’ loop next, but I’m uncertain about the necessary calculations. Google is providing some assistance.
My belongings are still on the dining room table in a small pile, which was once on my desk. I feel compelled to tidy up since those items don’t belong there. I want to make the space look neater. This JavaScript problem seems to be fueling my desire to procrastinate and engage in other tasks. I still need to put away clean clothes as well. I think I’ll make some hot tea and then return to coding.
I'm not done with the prime number problem yet, but I have made some additions to it. The if statement in the beginning need a little work:
function isPrime(n) { if (n < 2){ return false; } for (let i = 2; i <= Math.sqrt(n); i++) { // Code to check for prime goes here } }
I plan to revisit this problem tomorrow. For now, I’m going to restart my computer since it needs to update, and I might make some matcha tea. Additionally, I should prepare Tommy's lunch for tomorrow. I'm also excited to receive my new hearing aids Thursday. It's a relief to have them.
I researched our first port of call on the cruise later this year: the Orkney Islands, situated off the northeastern coast of Scotland. It sounds so nice! Kirkwall, the capital, is the largest town and serves as the cultural hub of Orkney. Here are some things I discovered:
1. History & Heritage
Neolithic Sites: Orkney is home to some of the best-preserved Neolithic sites in Europe, including the Ring of Brodgar, Skara Brae, and Maeshowe, all part of the UNESCO-listed Heart of Neolithic Orkney.
Norse Influence: The islands were under Norse rule until 1472, and their Viking heritage is still evident in place names and traditions.
St. Magnus Cathedral: Located in Kirkwall, this impressive 12th-century cathedral was founded by Norse Earl Rögnvald in honor of his uncle, St. Magnus.
2. Kirkwall
Charming Harbor Town: Kirkwall is the largest town in Orkney and features picturesque waterfront views, narrow streets, and historical buildings.
Earl’s & Bishop’s Palaces: These medieval ruins near the cathedral tell stories of Orkney’s past rulers.
Shopping & Crafts: The town is known for local crafts, including Orkney chairs, jewelry, and textiles.
3. Natural Beauty & Wildlife
Cliffs & Coastal Scenery: Spectacular cliffs, like those at Yesnaby and the Old Man of Hoy (a famous sea stack), attract hikers and photographers.
Wildlife Watching: Orkney is home to puffins, seals, otters, and even orcas in its waters.
Northern Lights: The Aurora Borealis can sometimes be seen in Orkney, especially in winter.
4. Local Culture & Festivals
Ba' Game: A unique and chaotic football match played on Christmas and New Year’s Day in Kirkwall.
Orkney Folk Festival: Celebrates traditional Scottish and folk music every May.
Orkney Whisky & Gin: The Highland Park and Scapa distilleries produce world-renowned whiskies.
I will do some reading on the other ports too. I hope to collect some post cards while I'm there. I have so many post cards from different places. I should put them in a photo album or something.
