I feel a bit lost today. I did read more of the ‘You Belong in Tech’ book. She is talking more about using social media to build a community and make a name for yourself. Here are some ways to do so:
1) Use Twitter to my advantage. Make posts, and retweet interesting tech posts. Twitter is a bit intimidating to me, but I can try this out. Maybe start with retweeting and following some tech accounts.
2) Update all social media accounts. My social media accounts aren’t strictly tech related. And I’m still unsure about putting my information on my Facebook account and making that public.
3) Identify your area of expertise. What exactly is my area of expertise? My knowledge of tech is all over the place.
4) Regularly share content and take 30 minutes a day to curate a post. A half-hour? But then, it takes me a half-hour to create a post here. I can regularly share content. I can try this.
5) Comment on new-to-tech accounts and bigger accounts to get your name out there.
6) Discord. This has been mentioned more than several times in this book. The usage of Discord to find communities.
7) Find and join groups. I guess this would also mean scouting Discord and Twitter. Maybe Facebook.
8) Keep your posts consistent and your personal posts to a minimum. So Facebook would be my personal account, then.
9) Use relevant hastags and keywords. This is easy enough.
10) Use a hook to get people to stop scrolling and read your post. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk. That’s a hook.
